Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
